Well, it has been a long weekend, but Brett and Donna went to Jenny’s wedding, so there wasn’t enough time to update the blog. Now we have a ton of updates!
First off, I want to thank everyone at the wedding that told Donna and myself that they were thinking/praying for Brody and that they love reading the caring bridge website. We heard so many good things that people said about Brody, that it was hard having to go back to ‘reality’. But it was so good to see Brody again.
As we said before, Brody’s surgery went well and it has been amazing about the difference that it was able to make for him. He hasn’t spit up more than twice a day over the weekend, and today he actually had an spit up free day!
With that said, it has been slow trying to get him figured out on food again. He has stayed on a feeding tube, but his stomach got stretched out so far because of the pylorus that his stomach needs to be shrunk down again, as well as to figure out what food is and what it’s like to be hungry.
Good news with his tube though is that today he went from having an NJ tube (in his jejunum) to having an NG tube that is now in his stomach. So he is now getting food directly into his stomach, and is able to go through the whole motion, other than the suction and swallowing.
Other things we found out is that he is not having troubles with his bladder to splash back into the kidney (beings that he only has one now). He is also on tummy medication, prevlosic (sp?) for upset tummies.
On a last note, we were able to meet with the only pediatric neurologist in South Dakota and was able to find out a little more about the neurological damage that was done. To what extent, we are still not sure, so we do not want to give people the wrong impressions. Worst case scenarios are always what’s given to people in hospitals so that they plan for the worst, but we already know that some of the things that were said are already not true. So when we find out more about what BRODY will be able to do, we’ll let everyone know by updating it here.
To finish (you like that? On a last note and to finish?) we would like to thank the Kamnikars for helping us this weekend, the Wilsons for coming by the hospital to meet Brody and Donna, again everyone that came to the wedding to tell us they’re thinking about Brody, Grandma and Grandpa Stolz for coming by this weekend, Grandma Weiland for babysitting, and Theresa and Rosemary for babysitting as well. Also, a big thank you goes out to the Jack Ryan Gillingham foundation for agreeing to help us with a generous donation to help Mom and Dad in groceries and other goods that we will need in the months to come.
